Foraging courses are becoming increasingly popular in the UK – from seaside pickings to weekend retreats. In today’s consumer society, where the large supermarkets battle with chain-restaurants for your hard-earned cash, it’s nice to take a break from it all and learn some down-to-earth techniques for gathering nature’s gifts.
It’s said that the average Westerner only consumes 25 different species of plant in each year – a number that can be experienced within a single day’s foraging in the forest. We aim to break the boundaries between city and country living; between the table and the forest – no longer should our food experiences be limited to a supermarket shelf.
We’ve selected three of our foraging courses out for you in this list:
First up on our list is a ‘Wild Food Forage’ day in Swindon. Throughout the day you will learn some fantastic techniques that will stay with you forever. The day lasts seven hours – and at a cost of just £70, it’s a must!
Second is the fantastic ‘Edible Seashore Course’ – available on selected dates in Dorset, Cornwall and Sussex. The day consists of some expert teaching, hands-on foraging and some delicious cuisine, including dishes such as Seweed Risotto and Seashore Paella. The course is £65.
The third and final course is the strangest we have on offer: ‘Edible Bugs Foraging Course’ – Cornwall. The course is genuinely insightful – giving you the ability to learn all the techniques involved around ‘entomophagy’ – the eating of bugs. The course cost £75.
So, now you know the ins-and-outs of some foraging courses we have to offer, get down to the forest and learn from the pros!
